Volcano Popocatepetl erupted
UPDATE: In the last 24 hours, the volcano monitoring system registered 50 low intensity exhalation, which generated eruptive columns less than 1 km of height with low to moderate ash content that dispersed to SW direction. Due to this activity, yesterday was reported by the group of Civil Protection of Amecameca reported fall of ash in Ozumba, Edo de Mexico.
Popocatépetl volcano has erupted, spreading with an explosion lava and ash scattered over a sizeable area around Puebla, Central Mexico.
The registered explosion was the fourth within 24 hours, according to CENAPRED ( The National Disaster Prevention Centre)
The volcano is kept in the Volcanic Alert Yellow Phase 3 (the third highest warning on the centre's 7-stages scale).
In the last 24 hours, the monitoring system registered 88 low intensity emission and four explosion, of which two of them have occurred in the past two days, putting the citizens of Puebla City on alert.
The Mexican officials restricted the access to over 12 km radius around its crater. The highway between Puebla and Mexico State is only open to controlled traffic. They made available shelters for the people who lives in the surrounding area and they are preparing for an evacuation.
The head of Mexico's Civil Protection Agency, Mr. Luis Felipe Puente, said that one of the explosions launched lava and ash 2 km into the air.
