The blast took place around 11 am in the water tank of the berthed ONGC tanker
Five people were killed and several injured on Tuesday morning in a blast on board ONGC's drill ship Sagar Bhushan at the Cochin Shipyard.
Police said the explosion took place around 9.45 am apparently due to a `gas leak' while maintenance work was underway in the ship.
The police and fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the yard and launched rescue operations. The fire was immediately extinguished and few workers trapped in the ship were rescued.
