Chemical leak in South Philadelphia
Police and firefighters are responding to a reported chemical leak in South Philadelphia.
About ten employees of an global chemical business were evacuated after dozens of gallons of chemicals leaked from a plant. No injuries were reported.
The authorities says approximately 380 Liters (approximately 100 gallons) of non-toxic oil based chemical were sprayed from a broken pump. The spill was contained to the inside of a building.
Officials declared that the material was released into a containment dike on the plant property. The cause of the accident is unknown for now.
The Philadelphia Fire Department has shut down Columbus Blvd near Oregon Avenue.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE: According to Philadelphia Police District, there are no evacuation or restriction for residents near Front Street. Street closures remain in place on Columbus Boulevard.
